The Louisville Division of the FBI is one of 56 FBI field offices located throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The locations were selected according to crime trends, the need for regional geographic centralization, and the need to efficiently manage resources.
Nearly all FBI field offices are overseen by a Special Agent in Charge (SAC), except for those located in New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Due to their size, those offices each are managed by an Assistant Director in Charge.
The Louisville Field Office is managed by one SAC aided by two Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC). Eight agent supervisors in charge of investigations, as well as an Administrative Officer and several professional support supervisors, report to the ASAC. The division's Chief Division Counsel, who provides legal guidance on both investigative and administrative matters, also reports to the ASAC.
FBI field offices conduct business directly from their headquarters offices and through approximately 400 satellite offices, known as Resident Agencies, throughout the United States. The number of resident agencies attached to each field office varies, as does the number of employees assigned to each. Larger resident agencies are managed by supervisory senior resident agents who report to the field office covering that area.
The Louisville Division Headquarters City Office is located in the Romano Mazzoli Federal Building, 600 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Place, Suite 500, Louisville, Kentucky, telephone (502) 583-3941. Eleven resident agencies are situated throughout Kentucky.
The six resident agencies located in the Eastern Judicial District of Kentucky are managed by three supervisory senior resident agents assigned to the Covington, Lexington, and London Resident Agencies. Responsibility for the five remaining resident agencies situated in the Western Judicial District of Kentucky is shared by two squad supervisors at Louisville's Headquarters City Office.
