Each of the fifty-six offices of the FBI maintains an Applicant Unit which is responsive to the overall needs of the FBI as a whole.  Individuals interested in careers as a support employee with the FBI are encouraged to regularly visit the FBI's web page.  Visiting the Bureau's home page permits potential applicants to determine if a position exists in a specific field office, support facility or FBI Headquarters, which would be of possible interests.

Those seeking a career as an FBI Special Agent should be aware the Special Agents are hired nationally and not by or for specific offices or regions.  An applicant for the agent position agrees to serve in a world wide capacity and should not anticipate immediately returning to the office from which he or she applied.  After obtaining seniority and based on the needs of the Bureau, an agent may be transferred to a field office of their choice.  In addition to the 56 field offices, the FBI maintains over 400 satellite offices in the United States and approximately 40 offices in foreign countries.

Louisville Applicant Unit personnel regularly visit college and professional career fairs throughout Kentucky.  The Louisville Office is responsible for applicants matters for all of Kentucky.

           Qualifications for Special Agents
