WORKING
GROUP
The Louisville FBI participates in an Environmental
Crimes Working Group with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Kentucky
Department for Environmental Protection (KDEP), Natural Resource and Environmental
Protection Cabinet, Kentucky Attorney General's Office, United States Attorney's
Offices, United States Fish and Wildlife, United States Department of Transportation,
United States Coast Guard, Internal Revenue Service, and the Kentucky State
Police. The Working Group meets monthly having first met in April
1988. Environmental Crimes investigations are referred to the Working
Group by State and Federal agencies and by other entities and individuals
outside of the Working Group. All matters are worked jointly within
the Working Group. The Working Group has enjoyed great success in
both statistical accomplishments and in establishing positive working relationships
with those agencies participating in the Working Group. Louisville
has consistently been one of the FBI's most productive field offices in
the investigation of environmental crimes, assessing over $1 million in
fines and convictions under virtually all of the federal statutes dealing
with environmental crimes.
