FRANKLIN COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH INTERNATIONAL PARENTAL KIDNAPPING LEXINGTON, KY—The United States Attorney’s Office, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Frankfort Police Department jointly announced today that Miles Thomas Woodside, 30, of Franklin County, Ky. was arraigned in federal court in Lexington today pursuant to a federal indictment that charged him with international parental kidnaping and transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines. The indictment alleged that between February 27, 2009 and March 2, 2009 Woodside transported a stolen vehicle from Alabama to Tennessee. He was also charged with removing a child from Franklin County and traveling to Mexico with the child to obstruct parental custody rights. Woodside pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court scheduled a detention hearing for Monday, April 13, to determine whether Woodside will be detained before his trial on June 9. The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Frankfort Police Department. If convicted, Woodside faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. However, any sentence following conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the United States Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of sentences. The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only, and that person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
