FEDERAL SENTENCE OF FOUR MONTHS FOR INJURY TO INFANT -Substantial bodily injuries sustained
PADUCAH, KY - Jennifer L. Goss, age 22, of Fremont, Iowa, was sentenced on March 11, 2009 to 4 months imprisonment in United States District Court, Paducah, Kentucky, for two counts of assault on a child who had not attained the age of 16 years, resulting in bodily injuries, Acting United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Thomas B. Russell, Chief Judge, United States District Court, also sentenced Goss to 1 year of supervised release following incarceration, to include 4 months of home detention. There is no parole in the federal judicial system. Goss had plead guilty to injuring the 8-week old infant about May 22, 2007, when she intentionally squeezed him very hard, which resulted in bruises on his body. Goss had also pleaded guilty to injuring the infant about May 29, 2007, when she intentionally dropped the child on a hard surface, which resulted in a skull fracture, bleeding into layers covering the brain, brain seizure activity, and bleeding into an area of the left eye. The offenses occurred on the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky military base. Goss was a civilian dependent of military personnel. The child was initially evaluated at the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Ft. Campbell military base, and then evacuated to the Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, where he remained as a patient for approximately 5 days. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Sparks, and it was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky Criminal Investigation Division.
