London, Ky. -Freddy Clinton Johnson, 69, of Manchester, Kentucky, was sentenced today to 14 months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 by District Court Judge Danny C. Reeves for conspiring to buy votes. In November of 2007, Johnson, former Magistrate in District 6 of Clay County, pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted that he conspired with others to make payments to individuals for their votes in the May 2002 primary election in Clay County, Kentucky, and that he provided money to others to haul voters and for the purpose of buying votes. Under federal law, Johnson must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for 2 years. James A. Zerhusen, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Larry R. Willis, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, jointly made the announcement today after the sentencing. The investigation
was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The United States
was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen C. Smith.
