FORMER OHIO COUNTY BANK EMPLOYEE SENTENCED TO ONE DAY FOR EMBEZZLEMENT
– Bank bookkeeper took $7,884.59

LOUISVILLE, KY - Joyce M. Farris, age 37, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, in Ohio County, was sentenced on May 19, 2008, to one day imprisonment, in United States District Court, Owensboro, Kentucky, for bank embezzlement, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Joseph H. McKinley, Judge, United States District Court, also sentenced Farris to three years supervised release following incarceration. In addition, restitution in the amount of $7,884.59 was imposed. Farris had been making restitution payments to the bank when the embezzlement was discovered, and paid the balance owed to the bank in full on the date of sentencing.

Farris plead guilty on January 31, 2008, to causing two cashier’s checks to be issued payable to her personal debtors. She also made transfers from her daughter's bank account into her own bank account. When her daughter's account was overdrawn nearly $3,000 Farris made transfers from the bank's research account into her daughter's account to conceal the unauthorized transfers.

The case was prosecuted by Marisa J. Ford, Assistant United States Attorney, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
