Lexington, Kentucky—A Shelbyville man was indicted today on 2 counts of armed bank robbery that alleges he stole more than 34,000 dollars from two banks. The Indictment alleges that on January 15, 2008, Kenneth W. Chandler, 47, used a hand gun as leverage to take $11,817.00 belonging to Central Bank in Lexington. The indictment also accuses Chandler of using the same tactic on October 24th, 2007 to steal $22,796.00 from Citizens Union Bank in Shelbyville, Kentucky. These alleged acts also assaulted and put in jeopardy the lives of the others in his presence. Chandler is also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm. James A. Zerhusen, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Special Agent in Charge Tracy A. Reinhold, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), jointly made the announcement today after a federal grand jury in Lexington, Ky., returned the Indictment. The investigation preceding the Indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau Investigation. The Indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney James E. Arehart. Chandler’s appearance before the United States District Court has not yet been set by the Court in Lexington, Ky. If convicted, Chandler faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years. However, any sentence following conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of a sentence. The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only, and that person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
