FORMER OWENSBORO BANK EMPLOYEE PLEADS GUILTY TO EMBEZZLEMENT -- Data processor took in excess of $78,000 OWENSBORO, KY - Wilma Kay Nix, age 59, of Newburgh, Indiana, in Warrick County, pled guilty to bank embezzlement, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Nix admitted that between June 3, 1998, and November 1, 2004, she embezzled from the First Security Bank in Owensboro, Kentucky. The United States alleges the amount Nix embezzled is more than $78,000. Nix was employed as a data processor at First Security Bank in Owensboro, Kentucky. Over a ten year period, she initiated thousands of online transfers of bank funds into her own checking and savings accounts. Ms. Nix has agreed to apply her retirement plan of about $35,000 towards restitution. The maximum potential penalties are 30 years imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of not more than 5 years. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marisa J. Ford, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The plea was entered before Joseph H. McKinley, Jr., Judge, United States District Court, Owensboro, Kentucky. Nix is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge McKinley on November 16, 2007, at 9:00 a.m., in Owensboro, Kentucky. ###
