LOUISVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO PHONING IN FALSE BOMB THREAT
– Call made to Louisville Metro Communications regarding bomb at airport

LOUISVILLE, KY - Logan Charles Silliman, age 21, of Louisville, pled guilty to maliciously conveying false information concerning a bomb, David L. Huber, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, announced today. Silliman admitted during his plea that the information he provided to the Louisville Metro Safe Communications 911 call center regarding a bomb at the airport was false.

According to an affidavit previously filed in the case by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), on July 24, 2007, at 2:07 p.m., Louisville Metro Safe Communications received a cellular telephone call at the 911 Communications Center from a male caller. The caller stated that he had been told by a male of Middle Eastern appearance that a bomb had been placed by a telephone in the airport.

According to the affidavit, the investigation revealed that the cellular telephone used to make the call to the 911 Communications Center had been stolen from the true owner’s vehicle at approximately 2:00 p.m. on July 24, 2007.

According to the affidavit, investigators were lead to Silliman after reviewing video surveillance tapes and information regarding a credit card purchase that took place immediately following the theft of the cell phone.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael A. Bennett. It was investigated by the Louisville FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Louisville Metro Police Department.

The maximum potential penalties are 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 3 years. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.

The plea was entered before United States Magistrate Judge James B. Moyer, United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky. Silliman is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Thomas B. Russell, United States District Court, on January 15, 2008 at 12:00 noon in Louisville, Kentucky.
