Lexington, Ky. — MUHAMMAD ABDUL-RAHMAN, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary, Big Sandy, was indicted today for charges of assault with the intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and knowingly possessing a prohibited object, designed and intended to be used as a weapon.

The Indictment alleges that on October 24, 2006, ABDUL-RAHMAN, 25, of Washington, D.C., stabbed fellow inmate, Terrell Johnson, with the intent to murder him, using a prison made six-inch piece of metal sharpened to a point.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for three years.

The investigation preceding the Indictment was conducted by the FBI. The Indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Robert M. Duncan

Amul R. Thapar, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Tracy Reinhold, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Louisville Field Office, jointly made the announcement today after a federal grand jury in Lexington, Ky., returned the Indictment.

ABDUL-RAHMAN’S appearance before the United States District Court has not yet been set by the court in Lexington, Ky.

The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
